This is a very helpful book for studying the Iliad in its original language. Difficulties in syntax for students of Homer's Iliad were removed by Hamilton when he rearranged the text into normal English word order. Also helpful is a grammatical identification of difficult words right next to the word itself.Unfortunately, the publishers of this classic tool were willing to photocopy the text and print it somewhat blurred (though larger than the original they copied it from). Nabu public domain reprints writes a thorough disclaimer saying: "This book may have occasional imperfections such as missing or blurred pages, poor pictures, errant marks, etc. that were either part of the original artifact, or were introduced by the scanning process." But the publishers believe that such annoyances are worth putting up with for the sake of offering a classic out-of-print book to the public.Questions arise. What publishing forces leave Americans in the 21st Century with lesser-quality books than were had before the invention of off-set printing? Why are we having to eat from our ancestor's scrap pile? Quality paper, new imaging techniques, wondrous printing processes are the pride of modern technology. Couldn't Nabu at least focus the camera better and bind the book without glue running over the edge? I've purchased books from third world countries with more pride of workmanship. "Preservation of printed works worldwide" is Nabu's rationale for producing sub-standard editions. This could only be acceptable as a temporary solution to a bigger problem. This being the only offering of Clark's book on Amazon, then sure, get it.
