I can't say enough good about Saxon Math curriculum, especially for homeschoolers. It is all laid out for you and is just enough new concept to keep things interesting, but not too difficult. There is lots of review which I think is the only way the kids really get to KNOW the material. Wish I had used this a year earlier when I just tried to wing it myself. There are 120 lessons and they take my 9 year old about an hour to complete. Some more, some less. There is a warm up "test" for each lesson. 5/4 starts out reviewing basic addition and subtraction facts but then moves to multiplication and division. My daughter finally learned her math facts with this book. Tests and worksheets are a necessary part of the curriculum, don't go without them.

I'm only giving us two stars because that's for the book itself as it was written and produced. As far as this particular item if I had known that it was missing an enormous chunk of pages I wouldn't have purchased it. Pages 12 through 26 are not here which is how we start off the beginning of the quarter. So for half time is it in the exclamation but I certainly don't remember seeing that. And so now we have no activity sheets until less than 4. There's plenty of ways to get around this it's going to be mostly review for the first three lessons anyway but I would not have bought it and now school starts tomorrow so it's too late.

This book is essential for Saxon Math 5/4. It provides daily timed tests, supplemental materials, tests, record sheets for timed tests and daily work, and suggested worksheets for use with the textbook. I like how Saxon Math has built in review. It is a gentle, spiral approach math for learners in 5th grade. To be honest, I used Saxon 1 and Saxon 2 and intensely disliked both. The material seemed tedious and took 1 to 2 hours per day to cover. I returned to Saxon in this level and found it was just what my student needed. It has made my student more confident and more skillful in math. I highly recommend this level and the levels that follow.

Needed this for home school math. Easy to use, and really, Saxon is a fantastic program. (My kids even say, if you DO what they tell you to do, you will REALLY know your stuff!)

Awesome bookset. My 4th grader finished it. It was a great addition to his knowledge. His math confidence improved. The way we did it is, we as him to finish a full math lesson and solve all problems on his own notebook. Then I grade it and we go over the mistakes. One session a day (excluding weekends and holidays). My son is not homeschooled. I used this to enhance his skills.

Delivered on time. We love Saxon Math. Loving the book.Saxon Math 5/4 is unlike Saxon math 1,2, and 3 in that children can be more independent and begin doing lessons on their own. 4/5 doesn't have to be as hands on as 1,2, and 3 requires you to be.

SAXON ROCKS! Our two sons used this system to master math and kicked all kinds of butt in testing. It's plainly presented and measured in approach. It is impossible to get confused so have the kids start on page one and keep going until they finish. How wonderful to have confidence in this important subject!

BEST Math curriculum because it is actually classical, so it reviews, reviews, reviews! My children do not like the time consuming lessons, though! It takes forever to complete each daily lesson because there are SO MANY problems, which is why I think it is so complete!
