Mike Mignola has a formula now: take a character from one graphic novel, make him the hero of a new novel or series of novels, create a background using material from classic pulp and crank sources, include characters from his own mythology, end it all in a catastrophic battle that the reader is assured will be futile in changing the depressing outcome. If this sounds like I at least am becoming bored, well, I am.Yet the best part of this tale is the oldest element: the sufferings of the poor monster, which always makes me disgusted with his tormentors, even though in real life I would probably act like them. Mignola pities him too, apparently, for he gives him a Hyperborean princess as a spirit guide, deus ex machina, and, finally, goddess of a paradise where he might find peace.

If you've ever wondered what happened to Frankenstein right after his encounter with Hellboy then this book will answer your question! Great art as usual and this book even has some quirky moments. Great to see Mignola's take on the Frankenstein Mythos wrap it with the hellboy world. If you like this style of book then you might also enjoy a fairytale about a little girl and a haunted house: The Stumps of Flattop Hill

The story was written by Mr. Mignola, but I was hoping the artwork was all by him too. Still liked it.

Great Mignola revisiting Frankenstein and opening a new window on the icon.

I had wondered what would happen to Frankenstein's monster after his fight with Hellboy. I actually thought there was a possibility that he could replace Roger the homunculus. The story and art are pretty much what you might expect from the Hellboy universe, it has subterranean humans and dinosaur like monsters and ghosts haunting an ancient city. If you enjoy B.P.R.D then you will probably like this. I thought it was the price. Hope this helps.

Mignola, Stenbeck & Stewart have created another magnificent gem. Mignola's tale makes the Monster a very human character, while Stenbeck's art and Stewart's colors are all fit to carry the Mignola brand. I love Stenbeck's other work with Mignola (Baltimore, Witchfinder), but Frankenstein Underground is among the very best. Highly recommended for fans of supernatural graphic work and fans of Mignola, Stenbeck and Stewart.
