Why I keep giving Erin Dutton the benefit of the doubt is beyond me. Lifeless characters, implausible story, comatose action... all wrapped in golf - now just how nail-biting can that be, right? Right.

This was a good story and worth every penny I paid for it. The story trasported me there, I was the golfer, then I was the reporter, then I was in the audience watching the action of them teeing off making a connection. I could not put it down i had to know how and if they would end up together.

A romance set in the world of professional golf, is it possible? After the revelations about Tiger Woods' personal life, this book seemed very apropos. Golfer Tiernan is very careful with her personal life for fear of losing lucrative commercial endorsements, but during a tournament she's very publicly outed by her soon-to-be-ex-lover because Tiernan can't spare more time for the relationship. Sports commentator Elena is Puerto Rican and needs to hide her sexuality from her family as well as from her work colleagues, so she feels sorry for Tiernan. The two are brought together for a pro/amateur match, where Elena's calm attitude helps Tiernan break her run of bad luck and gives her the boost she needs to move on. Tiernan is difficult to get to like-she's reserved and spiky, fiercely protective of her privacy, utterly different to the more easy-going and sympathetic Elena. It's a real `opposites attract' romance, even though the actual romance doesn't start until halfway through the book. Though I find golf one of the most boring sports on earth, Erin Dutton managed to hold my attention with her descriptions of the various tournaments and details about the life of a pro-golfer.Very well balanced story. The pacing of the character development, romance and the setting match golf quite nicely.

I have enjoyed Erin Dutton's previous novels, but this looks like she could not make a printing deadline & just decided to end it, without really ending it at all! There is no real story development (from one golf tournament to the next is all it is) and the way one of the character seems willing to change her entire life so quickly just lacks realism (yes I know it is fiction). On related matters, I must say spending $30 odd (Australian) for a book of only 182 pages; well I am really starting to get annoyed with it. There are many fine, excellent writers of lesbian fiction around but I want more for my dollar in these tough times !

I think 3 stars is a good rating for this book. It, honestly, was too short for the complex issues that the characters had to resolve. It felt very rushed and unsatisfying.

I usually enjoy reading Erin Dutton's books but this was a huge disappointment. I think half of the book is missing. The character development is non-existent and the story ends just when the two main characters are starting to deal with their issues. If this is the first book in a series, I could deal with it. Otherwise, this book is a waste of time and money.

Tiernan O'Shea is a closeted professional golfer. She is outed in a very public way by the woman she had been with for seven years.Elena Pilar is an up and coming sportscaster and deeply closeted. When she is partnered with Tiernan for a Pro-Am charity match, sparks begin to fly between them. But Elena feels she can't have a relationship with anyone, let alone Tiernan, who is in the public eye. As Elena lets her guard down, her life in the closet comes under threat of exposure.A most enjoyable read. You don't have to like golf to enjoy this book.
