Complementary or alternative medicine, now more accurately called integrative medicine, is one of the fastest growing aspects of health care today. And in the field of integrative medicine Reiki is one of the fastest growing disciplines. There are over a million practitioners in the Western world and the number increases daily. Reiki is simple, easily learned, easily practiced, and it works - the effects are measurable and often profound. Because Reiki trainings at the first and second levels are usually conducted over a weekend, practitioners at all levels are looking for more to read about this simple and profound technique.

This book, Reiki - A Guide to Your Practice of Reiki Energy Healing, discusses the two major aspects of Reiki practice: self healing; and using this technique with others to support their process of healing, whatever that may be. This book gives clear and readable information on: the anatomy and physiology of the body, treatment positions and what they effect; philosophic, spiritual and emotional components of healing, ethics and etiquette of treatment..

This book covers three major areas:

1. Background information on the physical and emotional processes of healing in the body, discussion of the philosophic components of this system and energetic healing in general, including a comparison of varying forms of energetic healing

2. Clear discussion of the anatomy and physiology of major organs, glands and systems and how they work together in the body; specific discussion of treatment positions and what they serve, including line drawings to illustrate hand positions with clear instructions for each; discussion of "emotional physiology", or how emotions can interrelate with the physical body and its functions; discussion of spiritual aspects of healing..

3. Discussion of the practice of Reiki on self and others, including ethics and etiquette of treatment, and guidelines for becoming a professional practitioner

Written by a teaching Master with over thirteen years experience, this is A useful reference book for both the personal and professional practitioner.

I was introduced to Reiki, the Usui System of Natural Healing, in 1984. I was intrigued. The energy certainly felt healing. The treatment technique seemed simple, and the effects were certainly real. I signed up for a first level training in April 1985.

I have had a lifetime passion for the Martial Arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-do, and Combatives) and healing arts (Tai Chi, Qigong, Yoga and Reiki) for more than sixty years earning black belt and master teacher rank in many systems. As a Reiki master I have read numerous books on Reiki and other energy healing systems. I recently purchased this 107page soft cover book (Reiki: A guide to your practice of Reiki energy healing by Penelope Jewell) from Amazon for a bargain price. Even though I was familiar with the material in this text; nevertheless, I always find it interesting to read the various approaches used by other Reiki masters when explaining this Universal healing method give to us by Dr. Usui. This book covered the following material:Reiki – Universal life energy, explaining what Reiki is and the history of this system, Reiki energy explaining what Reiki does, healing and curing and other types of healing. Energetics 101 goes into the specifics about energy healing methods. Also covered is giving Reiki treatments, hands-on treatment of self and others and treatment positions. This book also emphasized finding a competent and reliable Reiki master to train under.Even though I do not agree with some of the material presented; however, I did like the way most of the information was presented in this volume. This is a very good Reiki beginner’s text book for those brand new to the energy healing systems.Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Chair/Seated Tai Chi, Qigong, and Yoga for seniors and the physically challenged)

Penelope Jewell's new practice guide for Reiki is one of the most clear and personable books I've yet seen on the topic. Simple line drawings show the placement of hands for both self healing and for working with others. Her inclusion of information on anatomy, physiology, and the metaphysical aspects of healing are a definite plus. Later sections, on running a healing circle and on finding a teaching Master, are both excellent guides from an experienced teacher. Jewell is straightforward in her knowledge and assumptions; and her reverence and respect for the system is grounded and inspiring. This book will help many new practitioners deepen their understanding of the practice of Reiki. And since Jewell is a Master in the traditional branch of the system, it will also serve as insight into one traditional Master's work and understandings of this amazing healing art.I showed the book to one woman (also a Reiki Master) who runs a wellness and healing arts center. Her comment was right on the money. "She's covered everything in this book," she said with tremendous appreciation. "You could TEACH from this book!" Indeed, you can.

This is my favorite book on Reiki, and it's my go-to source if I need a refresher. It's also the gift I give to people who are new practitioners. Unlike some books on Reiki, it's easy to read, it's straight-forward and it's respectful of the traditions of this sacred practice.

Penelope's book is wonderful and practical and concise. She packs a lot of information into it's pages and makes it amazingly simple to understand. It's a beautiful book, and the knowledge expressed in it feels as pure and the white cover with it's purple lettering.Along with Diane Stein's Essential Reiki, this book belongs on the bookshelf of every practioner at any level and any client who is interested in knowing more about Reiki

Penelope Jewell has explained in full detail the applications and the different uses of Reiki not only in the healing form, but also implementing Reiki into everyday uses in life. This complex healing art is brought to light through excellent illustrations and clear and concise explanation of each step of the many uses of Reiki.
